This one fought me for a while. The first three sketches all had the fox sitting like a normal animal, and every version looked stiff — like it was posing for a school photo, not living in its own drawing.
The version that finally worked came from ignoring anatomy for a minute and just following the line: let the tail loop back over the body, let the front paws overlap, and let the whole thing coil like a spring instead of sitting like a statue. Once the pose had tension in it, the character showed up on its own.
Ink outline first, colour built up in layers afterwards — mostly warm oranges with a cool grey for the paws and tail-tip to stop the whole piece reading as one flat block of colour.
